Trident = Tryzub

Trident = Tryzub

History was made Wednesday evening when Volodymor Zelensky addressed Congress in his battlefield greens. Did you wonder what the emblem on his sweatshirt signifies?

It was a trident.

The first trident symbols were found by archeologists in modern Ukraine are from 5,000 to 3,000 years B.C. In the 10th century, Prince Volodymyr (what a coincidence) the Great minted a trident symbol on coins, bricks, and adornments.

The most popular explanation? The three-pronged spear symbolizes the three-dimensional world:  1. our real world and life 2. the world of Deities, laws of nature, and laws of humanity and 3. the hereafter, the world of souls.

For some, the trident or tryzub is a symbol of the Christian Trinity of the God the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Other theories?
A symbol of a falcon: Depictions of a flying falcome with a Christian cross above it head have been found from the Kyivan Rurik dynasty, c 862-1598.

A cross anchor, an early Christian symbol which represents Faith and Hope.

The trident was officially approved as Ukraine’s national emblem in early 1990s.
