Ragin’ Cajun

Ragin’ Cajun

I have written a bit about my time waitressing at “The World Famous Palomino Club.”* Believe it or not, cocktail waitressing had been on my bucket list, but I never thought it would be at a famous country dive club.

The owner was a madman. Nevertheless, my 6-month stint there was indelible. Jerry Lee Lewis attacking the keyboards, lines for Emmylou Harris around the block, Linda Rondstadt in the green room.

But one of the most unforgettable acts was Louisiana cajun, Doug Kershaw. He’d get up there, most often in a white jumpsuit with beads and embroidery, and knock your damn socks off.

“All I had to do was entertain the crowd as well as I could. Then, if I got out of town fast enough, nobody could kick my ass.”

You couldn’t take your eyes off of him and his incredible fiddle playing.
Please take time to watch! doug kershaw diggy diggy lo

I was right, yes?

* Established in 1949, it was the most prominent country music  club in Los
Angeles for decades before its closure in 1995. The Los Angeles Times
referred to it as “Country Music’s most important West Coast club.”
