Antiquing with Dwight Yoakam

Antiquing with Dwight Yoakam

Driving home from grocery shopping, this weekend, A Thousand Miles from Nowhere (1993) came on my Sirius station.

I’m a thousand miles from nowhere
I’ve got bruises on my memory
I’ve got tearstains on my hands

On an occasional Sunday, we would go antiquing with Dwight.
I was never comfortable. Kinda shy.
He would be with one of his blonde babes
but I got a sense he didn’t really like women, on a certain level.

When Jesse was born, he gifted us a magnum of Dom Pérignon.
Manuel took a sip or two, then took her for a stroller ride, while my sister and I drank the whole thing. 😉

For me, it was payment for all of the nights he talked with Manuel into the early hours at the store 🫢, while I was alone with the baby. When she was a few months old, I said, “I’m OK. You don’t have to come home early every night.

I never saw him again 😂

I got heartaches in my pocket
I got echoes in my head

See what he missed:

I loved every minute of it,
