When I left my teaching position in May of 2020, I knew that if I wanted to get Rain Dodging published, I needed to learn about current publishing practices. It wasn’t the 80’s anymore!
I don’t know how I got turned onto Women in Publishing, but their annual summit was happening and ante-up I did. Best move I could have made.
The Summit features women and those who identify as women. A multi-day virtual event presented by Write|Publish|Sell and over 50 expert guests, all sessions are held live on Zoom, with recordings available afterwards. The conference covers topics on writing craft, editing, routes to publication, production, marketing, and business growth. Sample of presentation titles: 100 Publishing Tips, How Mommy Got Her Groove Back, Steps to Publishing a Book, Become a Full-Time Author, Write NonFiction Now, From Idea to Outline, Guide to Creativity and Flow.
By the end of my first summit, I knew that hybrid publishing was the best fit. I contacted She Writes Press: Rain Dodging was published October, 2023!
Not long after the Summit ended, a writer I met during the Summit invited me to join her online writers’ group. They Zoom up to four times a month to lend support, information, and to write for an hour, afterwards sharing progress. Fours YEARS later and we still meet, a few of us able to rendezvous in-person: P. walked a Gulf of Mexico beach with me, trying out subtitles. N. and I searched for Petosky stones on a Lake Michigan shore. (She is stopping in Nashville tomorrow on her way south for anther adventure and we are meeting for lunch!)
If you are a woman with a desire to publish a book, strongly consider joining Women in Publishing.
