Workers Brave Dangerous Cliff to Build a Mountain Road

From: Hasan Jasim

In the heart of Hunan Province, two dozen workers defy gravity to construct China’s longest sightseeing mountain road. Every day, these builders walk a treacherous path along the cliff, balancing on a wobbly wooden walkway, They carry planks and cement-filled wheelbarrows, hard hats their only protection.

The workers hammer rusty scaffolding poles into rocks to extend the road further around the cliff. A 400-meter-long glass road will be suspended along the cliff offering tourists vistas of the Shiniuzhai National Geopark.

This isn’t the first glass construction in Pingjiang, Hunan Province. A decade ago, another glass-bottomed walkway was unveiled, suspended 600 feet above the ground, connecting two mountain peaks.

Visitors feel the bridge sway with the wind.

Would you walk this walk?

Not I said the little red hen.
